The enduring, essential nature of logos and symbols give identity design a special character apart from more functional communication. Identity design generally does not seek to tell the entire story. Rather it evokes a sense of spirit or purpose — it establishes positioning and creates an anchor for the full story to come.
We’ve learned to capture the spirit of a business plan in a few lines, shapes and carefully chosen words. We’re into the who, what and why of our client’s operations; about how they produce their product and how they interact with customers. We’re also intensely curious about culture, commerce, the history of art and design, and the meaning of symbols, colors and language.
It’s not always deep thoughts, however. Occasionally, we just look at stuff and say, “Wow, that’s really cool.”
